I always say I'd rather go to the dentist than watch football, but this year I will absolutely tune in for the half time show. We have a wine in the shop where I work called Bad Bunnies! That's my playful translation; it's Los Conejos Malditos, a tempranillo from Spain and it's delicious. If I could figure out how to post a photo I would, the label is creative! So it will be wings, dip, and a bottle of Bad Bunnies for Sunday.
Ha, ha, ha. Glad to hear I’m not alone. I never watch the Super Bowl either. Although I might come out for the half-time show. All your recipes to celebrate the event look divine and I’ll give them a go, game or no. ❤️
I have been following you for a long time. Many many years ago I was a recipe tester for you. That was so much fun and my family loved when they got to eat the results. I am a huge fan of yours!
This post reminded me of Gary Janetti posting last year on Instagram when Taylor Swift’s bf was playing in the Super Bowl.
The half time show was Kendrick Lamar (and not his cup of tea), he thought since Taylor Swift was in the building she could at least help out with half time (I am paraphrasing but I think you get it!)
Your recipes sound and look amazing! Thank you for sharing them! I was reading the crab cake recipe, and it called for clarifying the butter, and it made me think of the first time that I ever heard of clarifying butter: it was on the show "The Northern Lights" where they would all get together at each other's house's for dinner. They were at a guy's house, and he always served them sub-par food, and one of them said, "You could at least clarify your butter!" Was this a life-changing moment for me? Maybe so!
In Uk and no tv but definitely going to try 3 of the recipes for starters. Thank you David . Now if I can just speed recovery from this total hip replacement I will go in my kitchen.
Go Celtics? Ha ha you crack me up, David. I know diddly about teams but even I know it's "go Pats!" But, hey, for me the half time show and the ads are the only thing that really captures my attention...that and the chance to blow my usual (semi) healthy eating habits and eat some really fun food with no guilt!
You know, I had to look it up. I had no idea who was playing! I don't slog through the game to watch the ads. I find there's some good round-ups online the day after. And… to hell with guilt!
I'm usually on the couch reading the NY Times and have an ability to tune out the chaos on the field and tune in to the fun stuff. I live with two others who love the game so I play along as best I can to seem like a good sport, ha ha!
Ahem, have we forgotten that Bad Bunny is the half time entertainment? Throw some Puerto Rican hand held apps in the mix!! Mini Rellenos de Papa, mini Alcapurrias, Bacalaitos etc. Look these delicious eats if you’re not familiar.
This hit a home-run with me. Or a touchdown. Or something. I’ve actually hosted several Super Bowl Sunday parties, rarely having the foggiest idea which teams were playing. But food like this is always a winner—any day of the week. Party on!

Mary, thank you so much for all of your work. It's people like you who have made LC such a trusted source for recipes!!!!

Thanks, Rebecca!

Ha!! Maybe the old saying is true, "No knowledge is ever wasted!"

Ambermoggie, oh, I'm so sorry. Can't be fun. Maybe you should put your feet up and have someone else cook? Feel better soon. ❤️🩹

Ann-Marie, it's always good to be a good sport about sports!

Not at all! I’ll be watching. I’m not sure if we have some Puerto Rican dishes—nothing comes to mind. But if I find some, I’ll add.
¡Gracias! 🇵🇷
¡Con gusto! I found a Puerto Rican-Style Ropa Vieja. I'm adding it now.

I love Sports Bowl food all through the year, Peggy!
